Why we pray?
Today is really great! I've witnessed the power of prayer again!! After the impressive night of praying together for our brothers who urgently need a placement job, both of them got one at last!!! Isn't He worth all our praise? He never fails us. "Do not be anxious about anything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Php 4:6-7)I'm so delighted, and in icq, I've got a chance to talk with my prayer partner. We shared views on why we pray. For long, people always ask, "If God is really merciful, omnipotent, and prepares the best for us, why do we need to pray? Why not just fulfilling our needs?"
I always think, why God wants us to pray is always for the sake of us, but not for Him... if sth is in His will and His favour, it's Him who achieve the things, regardless of whether we've prayed for it or not.... but God still pleased by our praying.... so, why, do you think?
My friend suggested once.... although God's plan is already there...through prayer our heart would be sensitized that we would appreciate what's God have given us....so through this we learn more about God and our faith can grow... I definitely agree ! To strengthen our faith through prayer when we find that He listens.....
Yet another reason that i could think of is... it's only in prayer that we can share a tiny spoon in His work and plan, and it's only through prayer that we can join to each others' life..... praying for each other is not because we don't trust that the Lord will look after him/her... just the opposite, it's coz we are sure that God will take care of him/her, so that we are more eagar to pray for each other..... I always feel so amazed about joining and supporting another's life through prayer... especially when I'm away in UK now.... there's no way that i can do anything for those i concern, but i know that i can be connected to them through prayers.... isn't it wonderful? And it's when you can do nothing for one another that you then know to pray for each other is such an important and wonderful thing....
And then my prayer partner added another point, "praying means WE talk to God anything u want, but besides asking for something, we can just praise Him in the prayer. In the bible it says that God treasures very much the time we talk to Him and He likes us praising Him!"
Exactly! I marvel everytime when i imagine that the almighty King, the Creator of all will be pleased by us, who are so trivial and so wicked all the time.... the idea of "pleasing God" always amuse me and motivate me to follow Him!!
I'm so happy to exchange these views with my prayer partner. With my heart filled with delight and praise, then came cj to my room. We just talked about almost everything and for almost 3 hours!! But what is really exciting is that I share with him about God's love, and the above views concerning prayers. cj knows Jesus, but he's not really "familiar" with Him, but I'm so glad that he told me he wish to pick up the practice of praying everyday!! I really hope that what we've been talking tonight would have inspired him a bit to think more about the Lord!! And by the end, I invited him to pray with me, and he agreed to. So we prayed together!! I feel so great and thankful ! The Lord still uses me!! Really hope that God continues to work in his heart, in my heart, in everyone's heart!!
To God be the glory!!!!
